How to Find a Reliable Roofing Company

Landmark

Finding a reliable roofing company can often be a real task.

Most homeowners will only have their roofs replaced once or twice in their lifetimes unless they live in an area where there are high risks for severe weather events. But whenever it comes time to have to replace that roof, every homeowner wants a roofing company they can rely on. When it comes to reliability every roofing contractor should take note of what Paul Carrick Brunson says, “Call when you say you will, show up when you say you will, and deliver what you say you will. Inconsistency destroys trust and trust is the foundation of all relationships.” For most homeowners, it is that simple.

Here are some points of advice that can help homeowners to navigate their way to finding the right roofing company they can depend on.

Use a local roofing company. Most local roofing companies don’t want any headaches from their customers that live in the same city or area where they live and do business. Many of the roofing company owners and employees shop at the same stores you do, have children that attend the same schools as yours, play after-school sports that children play and they are more apt to respond quickly to problems that may arise.

Find out how long they have been in business. Companies that aren’t trustworthy don’t stay in business long. Check out their track record and ask for references. Check to see how their standing is with the BBB. If a roofing company wants a great reputation they will work hard to protect it. Look for a company that has a clear and evident history of dependability.

Make sure the Roofing Company has current insurance and licensing. Many states require roofing companies to carry a required amount of insurance. Be sure to ask for proof of insurance. Also, many states require that roofing companies be licensed to operate their business. Companies that are licensed are knowledgeable of state and local permitting and procedures that help expedite the project along.

Get a written contract. Make sure the contract is clearly written and easy to understand. The expectations of both parties should be clearly stated on the contract including the start and finish dates, materials to be used, and itemized work detail. Be sure to read the small print. Take your time signing the contract, don’t be pressured to sign until you feel comfortable in doing so.

Ask for a warranty. Be sure your contractor gives you a warranty on the work that has been performed and a warranty detailing the material used. The labor warranty may be for one to five years and the material warranty form twenty-five to fifty years. Some manufacturers may even offer a conditional lifetime warranty.

Reliability, dependability, honesty, and trust should be the cornerstones of every roofing company. They are out there… you just have to be diligent to find them.
